Joanne Handy, RN, MS, is a nurse and
executive from San Francisco, California.
She serves on the AARP Foundation Board
of Directors and as a trustee on the AARP
Insurance Trust. Professionally, Ms. Handy
is president and CEO of Aging Services of
California. She previously served as president and CEO
for both the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston and the
San Francisco-based Institute on Aging. In her volunteer
work, Ms. Handy was board chair of the American Society
on Aging and a board member of the Visiting Nurse
Associations of America, the National Association of Home
Care and the California Association for Health Services at
Home.
Hubert H. Humphrey, III
Hubert H. “Skip” Humphrey, III, J.D., is
an executive and professor from Golden
Valley, Minnesota. He serves on the Board
Governance Committee, the National
Nominating Committee and as a trustee
on the AARP Insurance Trust. He is senior
vice president of Tunhiem Partners and a senior fellow
in the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health.
Previously, Mr. Humphrey was a public affairs consultant,
a senior fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of
Government and Minnesota attorney general. His previous
volunteer service with AARP includes tenure as AARP
Minnesota State President and with AARP’s Rx Affordability
Group.
Richard Johnson
Dick Johnson is a retired sales manager
from Wilmington, Delaware. He serves on
the Board Member Value Social Impact
Committee and as a trustee on the AARP
Insurance Trust. Mr. Johnson retired from
the Monsanto Company as district sales
manager and director of national accounts. To help ensure
the protection of older people, he served on the Delaware
Attorney General’s Senior Victims Task Force, the Adult
Protective Services Advisory Council and the Medicare
Fraud Patrol Steering Committee. His many honors include
the Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Award and the
Volunteer Leader of the Year Award.
Jacob Lozada, PhD, is an independent
management consultant from Fairfax,
Virginia. He serves on the Board Member
Value Social Impact Committee and AARP’s
National Policy Council. Earlier in his career,
Dr. Lozada was senior advisor for diversity
strategies at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management;
assistant secretary of the Veterans Administration (VA), a
consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton and a U.S. Army colonel.
Opportunities in education and the military are significant
in his volunteer efforts. He is president and founding
member of the University of Puerto Rico’s Association of
Alumni and Friends Abroad, and a board member of the VA
National Medical Music Group.
Mara Mayor
Mara Mayor, PhD, is an educator from
Bethesda, Maryland, who focuses on
extending learning opportunities in both
formal and informal settings. She serves on
the Board Audit and Finance and Member
Value Social Impact Committees. Previously,
she was director of education at the Smithsonian’s National
Zoological Park. She was also instrumental in positioning the
Annenberg/Corporation for Public Broadcasting Project as a
leader in the use of telecommunications within the worlds
of education and philanthropy. Dr. Mayor is a member of
both the Collaboration Task Force for AARP’s Women’s
Leadership Circle and the WETA Public Television/Radio
Board.
Maeona Mendelson
Mae Mendelson, PhD, is a professor of
intergenerational studies from Kailua,
Hawaii. She chairs both the AARP National
Nominating and National Policy Council
Nominating Committees, and serves on
the Board Member Value Social Impact
Committee and on the AARP Global Network Board of
Managers. Dr. Mendelson is professor in residence at
Chaminade University of Honolulu, focused on developing
the Intergenerational Center. She is also president of
Travel and Learn, an intergenerational study-tour company.
Previously she served as executive director of the Hawaii
Intergenerational Network and adjunct professor at Hawaii
Pacific University.
