The economic downturn hit people of all ages hard. But its effects were particularly harsh on lower-income older Americans, who faced high job loss, high foreclosure rates and rising bankruptcy—with little time to build back their income before retirement.

But they did not have to suffer through it alone. Thanks to the dedicated service of thousands of volunteers, AARP Foundation helped more than 2. 6 million older adults prepare their taxes, identify helpful benefits, find and train for jobs, manage their finances and avoid frauds and scams.
