We also continued national education
and outreach about SNAP (the federal
government’s food assistance program).
Our Benefits Outreach volunteers
helped thousands of hungry seniors to
complete applications for SNAP.
AARP Foundation President JoAnn
Jenkins helps load donations of food for
distribution to local food pantries.
One of our biggest impacts will come
from AARP’s sponsorship of four-time
NASCAR® Sprint Cup® champion Jeff
Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports in
an exciting collaboration with AARP
Foundation to capture the engagement
and enthusiasm of NASCAR’s 75 million
fans, America’s leading companies and
other organizations to raise awareness
and funds to end hunger.

Our Approach
Drive to End Hunger relies on four
basic strategies:
1. Raising national awareness about
the issue of senior hunger and generating resources to help solve the
problem;
2. Working with national and community partners to feed hungry older
Americans;
3. Educating and enrolling eligible
older Americans in SNAP/food
stamps, the government’s food
assistance program; and
4. Developing long-term, sustainable
solutions to senior hunger through
collaboration and research.
As part of the collaboration and AARP’s
sponsorship, Jeff Gordon, his No. 24
Chevrolet and his pit crew will sport the
Drive to End Hunger logo for several
select races, beginning at the Daytona
500 in February 2011. This unique
cause-related sponsorship is one of the
first in the sport.
In 2010, the Foundation and AARP
launched several communica-
tions initiatives focused on raising
awareness and engaging individuals
on the issue, including new web-
sites— www.aarp.org/hunger and
DrivetoEndHunger.org. In addition, the
Foundation launched a text campaign
for people to donate $10 by texting
“hunger” to 50555.
