Chill it
Forget what your science
teacher said about hot air
rising—if you want to cool
off cheaply this summer,
set your ceiling fans to blow
downward (so you feel a
breeze when standing under
them). Even if you pull down
warmer air, the draft will
work wonders. As a bonus,
a ceiling fan can cost 30
times less to run than a
typical room air conditioner.
STAY COOL,
SAVE MONEY
If your debit card grants
benefits such as air miles,
consider switching to a
credit card. A new law limiting debit-card fees takes
effect in July, so banks are
expected to kill their debit-card rewards programs.
